Building an app with AI: What happens after you get it running?

13 Oct 2026

I support people who aren’t software developers building their own apps with AI. After all, technology is also about helping people solve their own problems.

But getting an app to run doesn’t always mean the work is done. Security, maintenance, changing needs, unexpected problems… Sometimes that’s where the real work begins.

Knowing where your app stores its data, who can access it, and how you’ll notice if something goes wrong makes things easier. AI can explain these things, but saying “there are backups,” for example, doesn’t by itself show that you’ll be able to restore your data when you need it. Learning the basics helps you evaluate those answers in the context of your own app.

Here’s a small suggestion: While building your app, set aside some time to learn. Ask your AI tool, “Which software concepts should I learn to better understand this project and keep improving it later?” You don’t need to become a developer. But understanding how your app works makes it easier to evaluate problems and get the right help when you need it.

Don’t wait until you’ve learned everything to build something with AI. Just make learning part of the process.
